Home2 Suites by Hilton Frederick

For the Silver Sticks holiday tournament, this was a really convenient, family-friendly place to stay. It’s the closest hotel to the rink in Frederick, in a much nicer area than the other nearby options. The rooms were clean, there was a pool for the kids, and the complimentary breakfast was easily the best we had during the tournament.

I liked using the Hilton app as a virtual key. It opened the lobby, pool, and room doors from my phone, so I didn’t have to dig for my card. I could control the TV in the app too. I saw options for lighting and temperature-controlled beds, but don’t know if this hotel supports them; our room didn’t. We enjoyed the stay. The hotel was quiet, on the edge of Frederick, and our room was nice and clean apart from an occasional carpet stain. I’m not sure whether the furniture was new or just well kept, but it looked clean. We didn’t use the amenities, though they had breakfast, WiFi, a pool, a gym, and the usual hotel offerings. We did get locked out when the lobby doors were locked after a certain time. We hadn’t seen the sign explaining why, and it was our first time encountering that at a hotel. I understand it’s for security. Getting to Frederick took a little figuring out. The road right in front of the hotel only turns right, and Westview Drive behind the shops is the way to head toward town. Buckeystown Pike has two right-turn-only lanes that end at the turn when approaching from I270, though you can still reach the hotel from any of the right turns. Apple Maps got confused by the lanes, while Google Maps had no trouble.

The shower pressure was amazing, a little detail that made a big difference. The hotel was spotless and well maintained, and I felt comfortable right away. It’s close to everything, with plenty of restaurants and a mall just minutes away. I’d highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
