Howard Johnson by Wyndham Bangor

My wife has appointments with a specialist at the Bangor hospital, and since we live four hours north, we needed to stay nearby instead of driving home at night. The room worked perfectly for us. It was clean and comfortable, and didn't cost a fortune.

Good price through Priceline. The room was clean, the bed was really comfortable, and the remodel looks nice. I'd stay again if I'm in the area.

The water pressure was fantastic, and the hot water felt great. We could hear a little airplane noise from the nearby airport, but not at night. The breakfast was grab-and-go, which worked well for the total price. The bed was large and good quality, and the room had what I needed. Clean, quiet, comfortable, and the staff were good. I was very satisfied and would recommend staying here.

The service score dropped to two stars after the hotel kept $20 of our money over what they called a shower-curtain stain. They first charged us $100 for washable pink hair dye. On checkout day the manager looked in the room, saw no dye anywhere, and said we'd get a refund, but we got only $80 back. The updated room itself was spacious and very clean. We were traveling with two teen girls, and the extra towels we requested arrived right away, still warm. There was a mini fridge, microwave, and single-cup coffee maker, and we found it fairly quiet despite other reviews mentioning noise. It's easy to reach just off the highway, near Dunkin’ Donuts and Tim Hortons. The listing mentions a grab-and-go breakfast. I think Wyndham should update its website to make clear there's no pool and no continental breakfast like HJ used to offer.
