The Colony

We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived: the place was very clean, the staff were friendly, and the complex right on the water was really cute. My husband and I both felt we'd found the island's best deal for the price. Road construction makes the drive back to the cottage from downtown Bar Harbor a little inconvenient, but it's only a hassle in one direction. Given how clean and charming the place was, that was worth putting up with. I'd read the reviews before booking and worried it might be a dive. We had no other island options except a hotel room at $537 a night, since I booked at the last minute and this place had just had a cancellation. I'm glad we took it. Clean, quiet, cute, with friendly staff. A terrific find, and I highly recommend it.

The motel room felt cozy, with a cabin-like feel, plenty of room to relax, and a nice king bed. It also came with a mini fridge and microwave. The location is just far enough from downtown Bar Harbor to avoid being bothered by people making noise at all hours. Staff were friendly and glad to answer our questions. If you're after a great place at a great price, this is it.

Rustic and very cute, with older cabins where everything still works and is well maintained. The staff were helpful and really nice. There's a small coin-operated laundry room on site, free parking, and the property is family and dog friendly. The water views at the end of the driveway are awesome, and it's perfectly located near Acadia. We'll definitely return.

The owners are so kind, and they light the fire every evening. The grounds are well cared for, and the first thing I noticed walking into our cottage was how clean it smelled. The cottages are older, but it was lovely to hear some of their history. The Colony is locally owned rather than part of a corporation, which makes supporting the owners and local economy even nicer.
