Jailer's Inn

This was our second visit to Jailer's Inn, and I’m already looking forward to another. Paul treats people like family and goes well beyond what I’d expect from a host. The themed rooms are distinctive and make the place a uniquely great experience.

The location made it easy to walk to Bardstown' shops, restaurants, and bars, and the breakfast was good. The breakfast staff were very friendly, and I loved watching the little bunnies hop around the courtyard. My husband and I came for two nights to celebrate our 16th wedding anniversary. The property has plenty of history and made for an interesting stay. Still, we didn’t feel especially welcome when we arrived. There was a strong smoker smell as soon as we walked in. It faded somewhat in the room but was still noticeable, and the furniture there was worn and stained. I understand it’s a historic place, but the rooms need newer furniture and some upkeep. We had a good weekend, but wouldn’t stay again.

Our room was the only one that’s an actual cell, with bunks. The linens were clean, but it’s still a jail cell, so don’t expect the Ritz. We chose it for the paranormal experience and loved being able to access the part that once held prisoners. The staff were wonderful, and the included breakfast was great. It was served under a shaded patio, a relaxing spot. The little place has bunnies in the courtyard and backs up to an old cemetery, with a historic tavern next door. Both have lots of history. We’d recommend it and would return if we’re in the area.

Paul, who owns "Jailer's Inn", made our ghost-hunting visit special. He gave my cousins and me a tour of the jail, and we had a lot of laughs. After we’d spent a long night awake in the "jail cell", he even brought us breakfast muffins. He’s an incredible person who clearly wants guests at his B&B to have a good time. This gem is worth its weight in gold.
