DeeDee and Howard made us feel welcome at Mary May House, and the comfortable accommodations felt like home. We were looking for a historic, charming house, and that’s exactly what we found. Several restaurants, boutiques, a bakery, and a newly opened bar were close enough to walk to. It was lovely to stretch our legs around town, and it’s easy to see why Bardstown is a popular stop on The Bourbon Trail. We had a delicious breakfast at Mammy's.

David, who runs Bourbon Market Place downstairs, checked us in, welcomed us like old friends, showed us around, and gave us the door lock pass code. The beds were the most comfortable my wife and I have ever slept on. We wanted to stay in bed the next morning and take one home. This is a great place, close to everything and an easy walk to the historic district and square. The floors creak, but that’s part of the charm of an old historic building. There are just two guest rooms upstairs, and they share a bathroom. There were plenty of bath supplies. If you want the same commercial hotel experience you get in every city, this isn’t it. Expect something distinctive that leaves you rested and wanting to return. Isn’t that the point of a holiday?

The room was really nice, and we had fun at the bar downstairs. We could hear some noise from it in our room. My only complaint was breakfast: there wasn’t a proper meal, just donuts and fruit left in the room.

Instead of a Continental breakfast, they now give each person a $10.00 voucher for breakfast. You can use it anywhere in town.

The room had plenty of space, was nice, and was decently priced.
