The room was clean and well equipped, though the HVAC had trouble keeping the temperature steady. Everyone we met on staff was courteous and professional, and Nick at the front desk stood out for his hospitality. The restaurant was excellent, with a good bourbon selection, and we enjoyed the golf simulator. There are enough indoor and outdoor seating spots and things to do to fill a day. The decor is really nice throughout, and you can see the owners have invested a lot in bringing the old Holiday Inn back to life. It’s less than five minutes from downtown Bardstown and an easy drive to several distilleries. It isn’t perfect, but there’s a lot to like about Trail Hotel.

Several members of my family stayed at The Trail Hotel for an important birthday, and the rooms were comfortable and very nice. We did, however, lose electricity during our stay, which affected the experience. At dinner at Oak and Ember, Taylor was excellent. She explained the menu, accommodated us even though sides aren’t usually offered, and tried hard to make sure everyone was happy. The food was uneven: steaks ordered well done arrived raw, while the medium rare ones came well done. Other dishes weren’t as requested or simply weren’t to our taste. Taylor handled it kindly and professionally, bringing replacements and doing all she could to fix things. The manager’s response felt dismissive, as if we were a problem for asking to have our meals prepared correctly. Taylor kept going above and beyond, even trying to help us get to the speakeasy for our reservation. We hurried out when told the restaurant was closing at nine, then later found out it had stayed open longer for another group. That left us feeling like we weren’t the guests management wanted to prioritize. It was disappointing, and we left feeling unwelcome.

Amber made our evening in the speakeasy a real highlight of our Bardstown trip. She knew the drinks and local history inside out, and her recommendations were spot on. With her warm, helpful manner, she made the night feel like an experience she’d put together just for us. We can’t say enough about her hospitality. The Trail Hotel had a great atmosphere from the moment we arrived, and the speakeasy was stunning and luxurious. We’ll definitely be back. If you visit, stop by the speakeasy and hope Amber is there.

My wife surprised me with a stay at the Trail Hotel, and it was amazing. Nich welcomed us when we arrived and immediately made us comfortable. The hotel has a cool layout, and the updated rooms were comfortable and nicely appointed. We had a great meal with excellent service at the restaurant, where they surprised me with a pour of 21 year old Knob Creek for my birthday. The speakeasy wasn’t open that night, but Nick let us take a look inside, and it looked awesome.

Everything about our stay was easy and enjoyable. The staff were so friendly and went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and looked after. Our room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained. We had a wonderful stay, would happily come back, and recommend the hotel to anyone wanting great service and a relaxing visit.
