Hampton Inn & Suites Barstow

Construction was going on during our family’s visit, but the hotel was still clean and well kept. Our room had been recently renovated and felt modern, cozy, and nice to look at. The staff were courteous and professional, and breakfast was standard but good quality and what we expected. We had a comfortable, pleasant stay despite the work and would definitely come back.

The bed was comfy and the rest of the room seemed clean and fine, but I found a cockroach while packing to leave after a one-night stay on my way home from vacation. I showed photos to the desk attendant and mentioned it, since he said no manager was on shift. He looked like he didn’t care and like I was being difficult for worrying. Maybe roaches are normal there, but not where I was raised. I wasn’t asking for compensation, just wanted him to know and to reassure me I wouldn’t bring any home. I also didn’t like that the door between adjoining rooms wouldn’t lock. The first-floor room had a very odd design: three closed doors along a long entry made it feel unlike a hotel room, and the bathroom door opened in a way that blocked the main room door.

I was just passing through and stayed one night in one of the newly remodeled rooms. It was very clean, quiet, and comfortable. Breakfast was the usual hotel spread, eggs, bacon, potatoes, waffles, and so on. No complaints.

With renovations going on, I wouldn’t stay here if you need a good night’s sleep during a long trip. There are plenty of other hotels around, and I should have looked into them. I’m looking forward to reaching my family’s house, where I know I’ll sleep better.
