Motel 6 Barstow, CA - Route 66

The room didn’t have a duvet, just a top sheet and thin felt blanket, even with the windows open in winter. Maybe people steal them. All night, trains screeched as they braked, and vehicles kept coming and going from one parking spot in a way that looked like a designated pickup and drop-off point. For this price and location, it was about what I expected, but the photos and claims about “new rooms” set a different expectation.

Nidhi at Motel 6, 1350 Main St., Barstow, California 92311, was kind, professional, and so helpful. She answered every question, gave me as much coffee as I wanted, and took time for a warm conversation. She’s the motel’s co-owner, cleans all the rooms, and helps at the front desk. What a dump. They don’t clean the rooms if you stay longer than a day, and the $40 or $50 rate seems to attract nothing but animals. Do yourself a favor and pay $10 or $30 more for somewhere clean. This nasty place should be dynamited. It gives decent Motel 6 locations a bad name and doesn’t even deserve one star.

The owners were friendly and helpful, and customer service was the real highlight. It’s a great budget hotel, with a simple room that suits the price. Some of the upgrades looked newer and made it feel more modern and comfortable. I’d absolutely recommend it if you need an inexpensive place to crash.
