Courtyard Basking Ridge

We’ve stayed here around 7-8 times over the years while visiting my mother, and never had a bad experience. The rooms are nice, the beds comfortable, the workout room decent, and the rates we got were reasonable. I’d stay here again or at other Marriott hotels. This visit brought a large part of our family together after a funeral. We could gather comfortably in the common areas, and the staff helped us a lot. They received and printed burial documents sent by email, which saved us stress, and one receptionist even took a photo of our group from the second-floor balcony. Everyone was accommodating and helpful. There’s Starbucks in the lounge, breakfast, and beer and wine available until 1am, which helped during late nights with relatives visiting from around the country. It’s also very convenient for I-78. No complaints, high marks.

I didn’t have time to try the amenities, though I read there’s a hot tub. The road signs were easy to follow, and the evening front desk worker was genuinely nice. My top-floor room was spotless and very quiet. The bed was super comfortable, and the blankets had a nice weight. The in-room heater wasn’t built into the wall, but it worked well, responded quickly to thermostat changes, and made hardly any noise. I was glad some rooms still have bathtubs. I stayed a week ago and was really pleased. This will be my usual place when I’m nearby. Management did a great job.

I was visiting for a work meeting at Sanofi in Morristown, and the hotel staff gave me a thoughtful birthday surprise. At check-in they wished me a happy birthday, which was coming up that Saturday, and had a card with handwritten wishes. I know Marriott does this for guests, but it still felt like a lovely gesture. Later, driving back to the Courtyard Marriott, I entered an intersection as the light turned green, then saw a fire truck coming from the right and needing to cross. I first stopped, then realized sitting in the middle of the intersection wasn’t safe, so I moved out of its way. A police officer turned on his lights as I pulled into the parking lot and asked what had happened. I explained it to Officer "Hadan," I believe. He was kind and understood why I’d cleared the intersection instead of freezing there. He checked my license, insurance, and registration, which I had with me, and gave me no ticket. It was good to have an officer listen and understand the facts. The green light and the fire truck’s arrival just happened at the same time, and he recognized that.

I’ve been staying here long term since Aug 9. The hotel itself is decent, but housekeeping left my room unclean and the bed messy at least five times. When I raised it, the manager was dismissive instead of trying to fix things. Really disappointing from a Marriott.
