We only had a few options in Bastrop while in town for a funeral, so my husband booked this place. The room was clearly not cleaned: the carpet and surfaces were dirty, and the toilet and shower were nasty. I've stayed in older, outdated places that were clean, so this was disappointing. Even getting in was a hassle because the key card didn't work and we had to return to the front desk. On top of that, my husband accidentally booked through Expedia and somehow we were charged an extra $40, bringing the total to $220. I wouldn't stay here.
The location was convenient, and the lobby looked clean. The room was decent, though a little overpriced, but there were dirty spots in the tub, hair in one bed, and brown residue on the lamp panel between the beds. At 8:20, breakfast was already gone even though I was told it ran until 9, so I just had coffee. The night clerk was nice; the day clerk less so. I was tired after driving three hours for a funeral after a full shift and didn't feel up to complaining. It could have been worse, but I probably won't come back.
I go to Bastrop pretty often and stay here whenever I'm in town. The owner and staff have been amazing every time, really caring and sweet. I'd definitely recommend staying here.
There is no elevator, so anyone who can't manage stairs should ask for a first floor room. The pool was tiny and hot, with strict hours of 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. We got back at 8:25 one night and it was already locked, and when we asked the next morning if the boys could swim ten minutes early before their baseball tournament, staff rudely pointed to the sign and said it would open at 10. The boys were disappointed. We were registered guests and had asked the desk to let us in the previous evening too, but were told to come back the next day. The whole staff needs a briefing on hospitality. The room itself was badly outdated and dirty, with carpets needing replacement, stained linens and beds, thin blankets, and limited towels, washcloths, and bedding. We all got bite marks that our doctor confirmed were bed bug bites. The refrigerator barely worked and leaked onto the floor; the AC also barely cooled the room, so we bought a fan. The ceiling and other basics need attention, and the place needs new everything. Avoid staying more than one night and spend extra on somewhere worth the time and money.
The price was unbeatable, and we had a comfortable short stay. We came into Bastrop, LA over Memorial Day weekend, Friday to Saturday, for a funeral, and the location worked well, across from a grocery store and about 1.5 miles from Walmart. The room was pleasantly clean, though the carpet was quite dated. We saw nice renovations outside, and the manager told my wife they were making upgrades, with new carpet on the list. The restroom light fixtures were already new. We'll keep this place in mind when we're in town, and I'm looking forward to seeing the carpet updated.
