DoubleTree by Hilton Baton Rouge

The location worked well, with restaurants nearby, and the room itself was a decent size. But during my eight-night stay, it wasn't cleaned daily and the sheets were never changed. They made the bed with the same sheets each day, so I asked for clean ones and changed them myself. The furniture was stained, and staff didn't do anything after I pointed it out. I'd give this place three stars.

After a 13-hour drive, we arrived to learn the hotel had overbooked, despite checking in the day before to secure our selection and even being given a room number. We'd booked a two-room suite with two king beds, but they offered only a smaller one-room suite with two queens. That room cost less, yet they wouldn't refund us the difference. We left and took our business elsewhere. I encourage others to do the same. This should be illegal if it isn't already.

The evening staff were funny, friendly, and helpful, and the room was a good size. Beyond that, I didn't have a good experience. There was a strange smell in both the room and hallway, and the morning staff were dismissive and condescending. I had chosen a breakfast rate because it was only a few dollars more. When I tried to explain that my reservation app showed something off after they changed my booking from one king and two queens to two kings, the manager replied in an odd tone that they don't offer free breakfast. I hadn't said it was free. I showed him messages from the night staff confirming someone there had changed something, but he still made no effort to help.

The staff were kind, but the property and its amenities badly fell short. Our room had floor trash, peeling wallpaper, tape on the ceiling, and a stained shower curtain. One bed hadn't been made when we arrived. The pool was an unpleasant green, and my kids were disappointed they couldn't swim. The website says there's room service, but we had to eat downstairs in the lobby instead; our food was cold and unappetizing. Breakfast is cooked to order rather than a buffet. That's not necessarily bad, but families with children should be told clearly, since it made getting out the door a lot harder. The hotel needs renovation and didn't meet what I expect from a Hilton.
