Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites, a Baton Rouge-Port Allen by IHG

The rooms were clean, and the location worked well for us, about an hour from the Angola rodeo. There’s an indoor pool, so you can swim even when the weather is bad, plus wheelchair-accessible rooms on the ground floor. The workout room was nice too. We had a few service frustrations. I asked for more coffee at the buffet after the pot was empty, but the employee went to check whether it really was. Staff also struggled to use the computer to give us a receipt. My husband was told that was because we booked through a third party, but I don't use third parties for our stays. One woman who worked at the hotel also brought eight kids to swim all three days we were there.

Moldy muffins were sitting on the breakfast buffet, and our room hadn't been cleaned before we arrived. I didn't realize the room was dirty until the next day. Ugh, I felt like I needed a bleach bath. I told the person at the front desk, and he didn't seem to care. This is the worst hotel I've stayed in by far. Stay at your own risk.

I've stayed here a few times, always just for one night because of work. The rooms have been clean, quiet, and comfortable, and I don't have any real complaints.

I got in late Friday, and the front desk guy wasn't rude, but he wasn't paying attention either. I stood there for five minutes before he stopped typing to ask my last name. On the third floor, the room smelled like mildew right away. We turned down the air, thinking that might help, but it didn't. The shower curtain was stained on the inside, there were clumps of hair in the shower, and by the bathroom light switch there was splatter that looked like blood or dirt. I used a washcloth to turn the light on and off. I had antibacterial wipes with me and cleaned the whole room before letting my kids touch anything. The sheets felt damp when we finally went to bed. We left for the LSU game the next day, so the room had all day to air out, but when we came back that evening the smell was worse. The sheets smelled like they'd been left wet in a hot laundry room and then dried, just mildewed. We all woke up Sunday feeling gross. I've never had a bad stay here before this weekend. The cleaning lady tried to come into the room or asked in the hall if we wanted it cleaned several times, so I expected it to be better kept up.
