Hampton Inn Battle Creek

I had to stay in room 318 for three nights because my job booked it, and hauling my clothes and tools up and down three flights of stairs was unacceptable. The shower button was stuck, so much of the water came out below and the top sprayer had no pressure. The fridge froze my food solid and even made my sodas explode. My coworkers also had rooms where the TV screens were blue, something other guests have mentioned. Coffee was weak, and breakfast cream cheese was left without refrigeration. Are people meant to eat spoiled, curdled cheese? The hotel is under renovation, but reviews suggest this has been going on for a year. That’s unacceptable. It needs to be inspected by HILTON. It doesn’t meet their quality, and it’s damaging the HILTON name. I’ll email them and think they should take away the right to use the brand. And to the owner who keeps apologizing for these issues: fix your hotel.

Laura, the GM, is doing a great job through all the changes, and the staff seem excited about starting fresh. The new owner is a great guy who recognized the hotel needed work and is taking steps to get it back in shape. The building is being remodeled floor by floor under new ownership. I stayed here under the previous management and had a horrible experience, including with some staff. I came back just the other week and found the new management and staff amazing. I can’t wait to return next year and see the finished work.

The digital key worked well, and the hotel is close to lots of restaurants. The view wasn’t much, but that didn’t matter to me. Still, this wasn’t what I expect from a Hampton property: the elevator was broken, the pool was closed, and my room was missing a fridge, microwave, and toilet paper holder. In a second room, the TV only showed blue images, and the shower knob was stuck halfway. This hotel needs help.

The staff were friendly and tried to help, but there’s only so much they can do when so much is out of order. The pool and elevator were closed, and first-floor rooms weren’t available. My room had no blackout blind, so the floodlight outside kept it bright all night. The carpet and bedding were old and stained, and needed replacing rather than another wash. As a platinum Hilton member who’s stayed at many of their hotels in this region, this is the most struggling Hampton I’ve seen. I won’t book here again. If Hilton is giving up on the Hampton brand, they should sell it and be done.
