Best Western Plus Bay City Inn & Suites

When I arrived at 4pm there was no clerk at the desk, just a note telling me to use the phone on the counter and call 0. It took at least five minutes for someone to come check me in. The room was nasty, musty, and smelled like dog. The tub was dirty, the carpet disgusting, and the blanket on one bed was old and frayed. I called the front desk to ask which number a TV channel was on. She didn't know and said she'd check and call back, but never did. The next morning I found a roach on the shirt I'd laid out on the other bed, then another on my luggage cube. I told the woman who checked me out, and she gave me the manager's name and phone number and even texted her to say I'd call. After waiting about 30 minutes, I called, got no answer, left a message, and never heard back. I travel at least 2 weeks a month and guarantee I won't stay there again. I'm planning to change hotel brands.

The smell got worse when I turned on the air, and above the a/c unit there was visible water damage around the window. The room felt unclean and old and musty. Later that night I found a roach crawling on the restroom floor, nearly enough to make me sleep in my car. I checked out early and drove 4 hours home with little to no sleep. I could tell right away this wasn't a good choice. The front desk area was dirty, though I went ahead and checked in. I'll NEVER stay here again. It was VERY disappointing because the Best Western in Lake Jackson has always been a nice place to stay, but they were booked.

Maintenance is lacking here, especially compared with other Best Western hotels I've stayed at in Texas, Alabama, Florida, and Missouri. There were lights out in the third-floor hallway, one bedside lamp flickered until my husband swapped bulbs with the desk lamp, and then both worked. One LED above the bed was burned out, while the working one still glowed when switched off, which seemed to indicate a wiring problem. Wires by the air conditioner were exposed where a child could get to them. The room had an ugly, discolored ceiling patch job, the ottoman was torn, and a white patch on the closet door was uneven and didn't match. The reception desk office chairs also needed replacing or heavy repairs. On the good side, the bed was soft, the air conditioner worked without much extra noise, the fridge worked well, and the shower, toilet, and sink were clean.

The staff were very friendly, and breakfast had a good selection. My bed was clean and made, so the hotel was sleepable, but the room itself needs work. The couch and office chair were badly torn, and the microwave didn't work, which was a problem since I stayed a couple of days and needed to warm food. At over $100 a night, I'd expect some repairs.
