Red Roof Inn Bay Minette

The manager was rude and unprofessional on the phone, and I felt the way I was treated was especially troubling as a Black or African-American person. I asked about multiple rooms for a conference and was told only five were available. When I asked to put a group hold on them, I was told to call corporate. They said they didn't have the number and would need to look it up on the computer, then suddenly the computer was down. I asked about reserving the five rooms anyway, but was told workers would be in town and they weren't sure I could get them. The manager seemed not to understand and handled the call very poorly. I said we'd stay somewhere else, and he abruptly hung up. I regret not getting his name. It was the worst phone experience, and I can only imagine the hassle if I'd been on the property. Save your time and money and book elsewhere.

For one night, it did the job. There wasn't soap by the sink, so I used the shower gel to wash my hands before meals. The pillows were a little hard, and the TV only showed one channel, Paw Patrol. I just went to sleep, so it was fine, but a few more amenities would've been nice.

I've stayed here before because the price is good for a simple room and a one-night stop. This time I found a roach in the tub as soon as I walked in, and the shower water was barely warm. It was fairly clean for an old hotel, and I guess that's what comes with the price.

The setting is fairly nice, with trees around the place and no buildings packed right up against it. There's a Pizza Hut within walking distance, though the ATM next to the hotel wasn't working. The outside still felt dirty and unsafe, and reviews for nearby fast food places were mostly one star. Inside, the lower-level room smelled like a basement and had a damp floor. The pillows were stained, the AC filters looked like they never get cleaned, and the shower had decent pressure but only warm water. Under the bed frames I found mold, trash, and dead bugs. The TV worked, which may have been the only plus. The room felt dirty and clearly hadn't had a full cleaning. For a quick overnight stop, I expected more from a Red Roof Inn. At $100 a night, it wasn't worth it, more like $50 to $60. Their replies to reviews seem like all talk when these problems still aren't fixed. I wouldn't stay again. Very disappointing.
