Travelodge by Wyndham Bay Shore Long Island

We've stayed at this motel lots of times for a quick getaway, since they have Jacuzzis and it's a chance to be alone together. This time was horrific. We paid cash, so we can't dispute the charge through our credit card company. After checking in, we left our things and went to the store for snacks without looking around much because we'd stayed before. When we came back, we saw the room was in terrible shape. There were obscenities on the bathroom door, and the Jacuzzi water came out brown, with rust and mold all over the jets. Everything was battered and broken. We'd only been there around three hours, including our shopping trip, so we asked for a full refund and said we'd leave quietly. The manager spoke to the owner, who offered at most $50 back. I got upset, reasonably, raised my voice, and showed him the run-down room while asking for at least half our money back. I'm 52, but they scolded me like a child and said they wouldn't refund anything because I'd raised my voice. We left quietly with no refund at all. I can only hope we don't catch some kind of disease from that disgusting hellhole.

The bedsprings were so loud they creaked at the slightest movement. The bathroom and fixtures were filthy, and the walls and outlets looked like they hadn't been cleaned in years. The sheets had cigarette burns, blood, and other stains, though the nice front desk lady behind the bulletproof glass replaced them. The tile floors might make it possible to mop up whatever's left between stays, in theory. At 5:30am, in pouring rain, a shady guy in a hood banged on our door asking where someone named “Mike” was. I told him to go away, but he came back twice more, and my girlfriend was freaked out for the rest of the trip. The owner is taking people for a ride, charging what they do for a place like this. You'd have to have zero integrity to keep running it this way.

We just needed a place to sleep for the night because all the hotels were booked or too expensive. The staff were kind on the phone and got us booked quickly, but this was one of the most uncomfortable motels I've ever stayed in. The charge was far too high for what we got. The bed was awful, the tub was clogged, and we were so uncomfortable we slept in our outside clothes. I wouldn't recommend it.

There was no hot water, and the shower door came off and nearly hit me in the head while I was on the toilet. I found blood on the walls and had to kill a roach crawling there. There were no vending machines or food and drinks available. The staff were rude and useless. They tried to walk into my room, but luckily the chain lock was on. Then I woke up to them staring at me and telling me it was time to check out. Absolutely horrifying.
