The mildew smell was the worst part of staying at Moon Shadow Inn. It hung around the rooms and common areas, and made the place feel uncomfortable and unhygienic. The food was just as disappointing: poorly prepared, bland, and nowhere near worth the price. It was one of my most underwhelming meals in Pennsylvania. With the poor maintenance on top of the subpar kitchen, it didn’t feel like a welcoming inn. There are cleaner, better options nearby, so I’d look elsewhere and save your money.

We stayed just one night while heading home, and I’d gladly return if I’m in the area again. The room was lovely, the bed very comfortable, and although the bathroom was small, it was clean and had what we needed. Moonshadow Inn is about 200 years old and used to be called The Beach Lake Hotel. The owner has restored it and filled it with antiques from his own collection, including the original 200-year-old room key he handed me. Try to arrive in time for a drink and dinner in the restaurant. You might get to chat with the owner and some locals too.

We haven’t stayed overnight yet, but after my cousin’s wedding we spent time at the downstairs bar and had an amazing time. The decor is beautiful, and it’s clear a lot of work went into making the space welcoming and fun. The owner was accommodating with our group, and bartender Kim was a rockstar. Five stars from me, or six if that were possible.

The antiques and the history give this place an energy that’s hard to explain. My wife and I spotted the banner out front and decided to stop in. Phil was a wonderful host, bartender, and chef, and we stayed for one night. The inn is beautifully appointed. We can’t wait to come back, and I’d give it six stars if I could. You have to experience the atmosphere for yourself.

The rooms are cozy, with paintings and little touches of history throughout. Those skeleton keys, over 200 years old, were a particularly cool detail. Phil has made this historic place a great spot to stay, and my family definitely plans to return and explore more of the Inn. 19/10, would recommend ❤️
