We come to Beacon often and went to the round house for an evening out. The food was lovely, and we'd absolutely return, though a few small misses stood out more given the price and atmosphere. The room inside is beautiful, we had a nice window view, and the ambience was great. Everyone was friendly and attentive. Our newer server seemed nervous and less familiar with the menu than we'd have liked, but she was very nice, and we have no complaints about the actual service. The Brussels sprouts were delicious and perfectly cooked, and we kept going back for more. The whipped ricotta had really interesting, amazing flavors. The baguette was a letdown: I expect a hot, crusty loaf, but this had a chewy, pretzel-like outside instead of a crisp one. We also split a half bottle of wine, which was a nice option since we didn't want a full bottle. For mains, the cassoulet had great depth and smoky meat. The crispy chicken sandwich was enjoyable and had nice flavors, but everything mushed together, with no textural contrast, and the bun was too big for the avocado and toppings. Both mains seemed to have been sitting under a heat lamp. Maybe they held them because we were still eating appetizers and didn't want us to feel rushed, but at this price they'd do better to pace the courses, or just bring the food out fresh when it's ready. Overall, a lovely meal, but those missteps mattered more because of the price and feel of the place.

We had a good meal and would recommend the restaurant. The waterfall is lit at night, and the dining room is nice. The staff were pleasant, and most of the food was delicious. The baguette, dumplings, steak, and truffle fries were phenomenal, and the white wine was great. The lamb chops/shank were tender enough to fall off the bone, but tasted bland, as if they needed more flavor, seasoning, or juice. Not sure which. The tables for two by the window are packed very close together. I could hear the couple beside us word for word and reach out to touch them or take something from their plate, if I wanted to. It felt awkward trying to talk with my partner and made the meal less intimate. When we asked for a steak knife, they brought something that looked like a butter knife with extra ridges, which was pretty strange. Still a good experience overall, and the prices weren't bad, especially if you skip wine. Please season that lamb shank, sort out the steak knives, and move those window tables farther apart.

We paid a lot and expected better service and a nicer hotel. We skipped the restaurant because we'd heard mixed reviews, but had cocktails in the Lounge. The drinks were great, though service was only so-so. The shower was one of the strangest parts of the room. Our king deluxe room had a plain glass wall between the shower and bedroom, with no privacy. The shower head was too low for my 6-foot husband, and there was no towel hook within reach. With one side open, steam couldn't build up, so our showers were chilly, and the soaps were out of reach under the water. The shower handle was faulty, the bathroom lighting was poor, there was no soap dish for the bar soap, and the only towel hook was by the toilet, so you had to get out and walk around the wall for a towel. The fancy makeup mirror was broken, and the hot water tap leaked onto the counter. There was barely any room for our winter coats in the small closet because the two robes, one with a broken belt loop, used all the hanging space. We'd have had to move the luggage rack, robes, and ironing board. The ceiling had water damage and rips, and we heard noise from upstairs all night. The bed was comfortable enough, but all the pillows were identical and kept slipping into the big gap between mattress and frame. That made it uncomfortable to sit against the headboard. The nightstands were tiny. One side had a light switch and dimmer, plus an alarm clock/phone charger and phone, leaving little room for our things. That side had outlets for chargers, but the other side had none. All the bedside lamps were on the same switch, and the buzzing dimmer made them flicker, so we had to keep the lights at full brightness. We had almost no contact with staff outside check-in and checkout. When we walked from the front desk to the Roundhouse building, the restaurant host just gave us a stink eye and pointed at the elevator when we asked where to go. Our mini-fridge wasn't restocked when the room was tended, so we didn't have cream cheese for the bagels left on the door handle each morning. We'll find better accommodations on our next visit to Beacon, a lovely town with great food and shopping.

The hotel itself was a 10 out of 10. We had a wonderful two-night stay over the long New Year's Weekend, with clean, spacious rooms in the Mill House, a great location, and excellent amenities. Dinner at the restaurant on Saturday Jan. 3 was a letdown, though. The beautiful decor and ambiance, attentive service, and window table with a stunning view, even after dark with the creek and falls lit up dramatically, set us up for a special evening. The food fell short. It wasn't bad enough to complain about then, but it was disappointing. Maybe the kitchen was just having an off night. I'd put the restaurant around 5 out of 10.

We loved the view of the river framed by fall foliage from our table in the main room. The atmosphere was incredible and set the tone for the evening. Our Rioja was delicious, and the bluefin tuna starter tasted fresh with yuzu ponzu. The octopus with chorizo and beans had a great texture, though the flavor was more muted than I expected. The smoked St. Louis ribs were messy, but their rich, smoky taste made them worth it. Service stayed friendly and attentive throughout. We also loved being able to stroll down Main St afterward and browse the small shops. A wonderful meal, and we'd like to try some of the dishes again.
