Super 8 Bedford

We booked two rooms for two nights mainly to use the pool and hot tub. I asked if they were working and was told yes, but the pool was extremely cold and the hot tub barely warm. When I complained, the guy said we don’t pay for amenities, though I do look at amenities when I book. There was a peeping tom while we tried the pool and hot tub, and a resident drunk. Loud, unsafe customers kept us from sleeping, so we left after the first night. Both rooms were dirty, and room 105 felt unsafe, with a plastic bag over the smoke detector and a strip cord running down the wall. Sam the manager wouldn’t return my money. He was dishonest and rude. It’s a dump.

For $73, I expected a clean room, even at a budget hotel. We arrived late in Bedford just needing to shower, sleep, and leave in the morning. I checked the beds as I always do, and saw what looked like a tiny, light-colored louse after pulling back the sheets and moving the pillows. My husband killed it. The other bed had food crumbs, the floor hadn’t been swept, and there was a huge mess of food bits and dirt between the mattress and frame. It was clearly not cleaned, and I knew I couldn’t sleep there. I kindly told the very kind woman at the desk and asked for a refund. She said only Sam, the owner, could authorize one. Another man overheard and told her, “I told you!” She checked the room, agreed it hadn’t been cleaned, but said she couldn’t do anything because she didn’t see bugs. Sam eventually said we could move rooms, but after seeing the bug I wasn’t comfortable taking that risk. He said he’d check the room the next day and let me know about a refund. We left for a more expensive, clean hotel down the road. Before leaving Bedford the next morning, we went back to Super 8 and explained everything. Sam didn’t check the room, saying it wasn’t yet 1030 and he couldn’t go in. He asked which hotel we’d stayed at and even asked me to email him the receipt. Then he said, “you get what you pay for.” My husband and I agree that may apply to amenities, but it should never apply to cleanliness. Sam said he’d check later and call around 130. We figured he’d keep the $73, so we left and wrote this to let others know what the hotel is like. His comment has made me more cautious about other budget hotels too.

Breakfast was lousy, and they wouldn’t even let us take stale cereal to the room. The pool and hot tub were both cold. I don’t recommend staying here. Spend a little more and go up the road.

I left within five minutes of arriving and found somewhere else to spend the night. The parking lot had trash, the whole hotel was hot and muggy even though it was 80 degrees, and the sheets looked stained with urine and blood. It’s the most disgusting hotel I’ve ever been to. I told the staff I wasn’t staying, and they said I’d have to contact hotels.com for a refund, which was a joke. I know hotels have cancellation rules, but this should be an exception. I’d be embarrassed to ask guests to stay in that filth.
