Our king studio was fantastic, with a really comfortable bed, plenty of towels, and all the kitchen things we needed. They even supplied coffee for the drip maker and robes. The hot tub was genuinely hot, clean, and well cared for. Check-in was easy thanks to clear instructions, and email replies to our questions came quickly. We also loved the location, walking to dinner in Bellaire both nights. Spillway wowed us in so many ways, and we’d recommend it highly.

The room felt like home, with warm decor and lovely views over the spillway, bald eagles included. My husband and I had such a relaxing stay and definitely plan to return in summer or winter. From the thoughtful pen and paper in the room to the QR codes for local restaurant room service, the details were well considered. The sauna looks out on nature, with a cold plunge nearby, and after snowshoeing we loved relaxing in the hot tubs. Short’s brewery is just minutes away and even within walking distance. Spillway lodges made a great up north getaway, and we’re so glad we found this Bellaire gem.

Bellaire worked well as a base for Northern Michigan, with Traverse City about 45 minutes away, and Sleeping Bear, Mackinac City/Island, and Leland/Fishtown around an hour and a half. The local food options were all good, and I’d say it’s best suited to parties 21+. The lodge was as welcoming, clean, updated, and fun as the photos suggest, maybe even better. Our room had comfortable beds and great pillows, a well-stocked kitchen, and all kinds of useful bathroom supplies. It was quiet and peaceful, and the hot tub, sauna, and cold plunge were clean and made for a fun contrast therapy experience on vacation. Kathleen gave us helpful local recommendations and went out of her way to arrange surprise flowers for our suite, which made our engagement special. We had an incredible stay at Spillway and will be back.

Watching the season’s first snow from here was such a treat. It’s an easy walk to Shorts and the downtown area, and the sauna was a favorite. Communication was clear throughout, and everything worked as it should. The bed was very comfortable, the rain shower felt luxurious, and I appreciated the thoughtful extras like coffee, a howler/growler to fill, and coasters. Can’t wait to return.

What a lovely getaway. The room was clean and beautifully decorated, with everything we needed and a gorgeous view. The grounds and amenities were wonderful too. They thought of all the details, and I’d absolutely recommend it.
