Stone Waters Inn

This is a really relaxing place to stay. The river below the spillway makes a lovely view, and the sound of the water helped us sleep well. The rooms were very clean, nicely furnished, and the beds were super comfortable. When we arrived, it felt a little like a B&B: we called the staff member who lives upstairs, and they came down to show us the room and make sure we were settled. They also gave us a 15% discount for a nice little restaurant half a block away. The town is on one side, with a river and park on the other. It’s small, but has a couple of very good restaurants and is close to skiing, boating, golf, biking, kayaking, fishing, and plenty of other outdoor activities. Checkout was simple. If everything’s fine, you can just leave, and they email the final bill and payment. For questions, call and someone will come down. We loved the place.

We have a cabin between Mancelona and Bellaire, but don’t keep the road plowed, so we stay at Stonewater whenever we come into town in winter. You can’t beat the comfort, cleanliness, location, or views. I’m always talking the place up, and in summer I bring friends by to show it off in hopes they’ll stay sometime. Also, thanks for crediting my bill because the fridge wasn’t working. I hadn’t expected that, and it was very kind.

We arrived around 11:00 a.m. on September 26 expecting a staffed check-in, but nobody was there. The phones went unanswered, and our voicemails and texts got no response. Other people were waiting at the front door for lunch service, and we all thought something terrible might have happened, but nobody ever explained anything. The website said staff were available from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., yet there were no instructions, apology, or communication at all. We tried calling, texting, and leaving a voicemail. We did not “no-show.” With no one responding or showing up, we had to find another place at the last minute so we could stay somewhere safe and certain. We booked Stonewater Manor for September 26, but got no check-in, room, communication, or help. They still charged us $260.18 CAD for a stay we never received, which is unacceptable. I can’t recommend this accommodation unless the full amount is refunded. I’m sharing this to warn other guests: if they can’t handle basic check-in, don’t trust the booking, and be prepared to be left hanging. The whole thing was unprofessional.

Very disappointing, with poor service, misleading drinks and food, and no value for what we paid. We were charged ₹1900 per person for entry but weren’t given a table. Staff sent us back to the people who sold the passes instead of helping, and their attitude was rude and unprofessional. We eventually spoke to the manager and got a table, though it shouldn’t have taken that much effort. We ordered a Breezer and were served Bacardi, with staff casually claiming they were the same. Then we ordered lobster and got chilli chicken stuffed into a lobster shell, which they claimed was lobster. That was shocking and misleading. Never again, please. Definitely not recommended.
