Belleville Motor Lodge

I’ve been coming here often for years, and the changing rates are a real problem. Prices went from $120 on weekdays and $140 on weekends to $99 any day. Then a double bed, the type I always book, went back to $120, and suddenly I was told it would be $140. They need rates that stay set for longer than a month. The desk staff are frustrating too. One of the two women often looks miserable and can be nasty; the other is rude, seems unwilling to do her job, and sometimes puts up a “no rooms available” sign when I can see rooms are open. She lounges back in a chair, huffs if she has to get up, and has a sarcastic, unpleasant attitude. There’s also a younger, thinner woman who’s always pleasant, helps customers, and tries to accommodate everyone. They need more people like her at the desk.

The room was basic but clean. What really stood out was the woman at the desk. My Expedia reservation apparently hadn’t gone through, and I didn’t find out until we arrived. She said there were a few rooms, but only singles, which wouldn’t work for me and my three kids. I thanked her and went back to the car to figure out what to do. Then she came running out to the parking lot after the cleaning staff told her they’d just finished a room with two double beds. I was so grateful she made the effort to find me instead of just shrugging and waiting for the next customer. Such a kind employee, and great service. Thanks so much!

We had a very nice stay. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the A/C worked well. Staff were kind and helpful, and checking in was easy. It’s close to the Stadium, with sandwich shops and other conveniences just across the street. The only snags were a room key that didn’t work on the morning we checked out and an ice machine that was out of order. I’d definitely return if I’m back in the area.

The room had no window, so it was hard to tell whether it was day or night. The A/C was another problem. The controls didn’t look right, and I have attachments to show it. The air was getting cold, but I couldn’t turn the unit off at all. The room key kept getting demagnetized. It happened twice, and when I went to the desk to have the card re-magnetized, the receptionist said something in my wallet must be causing it. I’ve stayed at other hotels with the cards in that same wallet and never had this issue, so I didn’t buy that explanation. Some things in the room and bathroom were good, but the rest was disappointing. I wouldn’t come back even if someone paid me enough.
