Holiday Inn Express & Suites Belleville (Airport Area)

Breakfast was decent, and the woman working there was friendly. The usual quick options were available, and she did a good job. The two people I spoke with at the front desk were friendly too. The room itself was clean and huge, with a sparsely furnished living room, a separate restroom foyer, and a bedroom beside I94. The bed was comfortable, but the traffic noise never stopped, and I could hear the person above stomping around. There didn’t seem to be much insulation. Parking was odd too, mostly behind the property or along one side. I wouldn’t recommend staying because of the highway noise. If you do, ask for a room well away from it.

The hourly bus to DTW made the next morning easy. It was on time, simple to use, and well organized, so I didn’t have to worry about parking or finding a ride. Breakfast was a good quick start, with pastries, cereal, fruit, coffee, and juice. I hadn’t planned to stay here. My flight was delayed until the following day, and the staff were kind, efficient, and understanding about the stress of travel from the moment I arrived. Check-in went smoothly. After a long day, I appreciated having a clean, quiet room and a very comfortable bed. What could’ve been a frustrating delay turned into a pleasant overnight stay. I’d come back for airport travel, an early flight, or another unexpected change of plans.

The rooms were great, and the pool was nice. Breakfast was surprisingly good too. I went for a weekend night with a girlfriend and our kids, but the hotel didn’t feel very suited to bigger groups or lots of children. Before 10:30 p.m., we got a noise complaint about our rooms, and the looks from the front desk felt unsettling at times.

We tried this place because the kids wanted a pool. We usually stay at the La Quinta near the airport and have had several good visits there. Before booking, I called because this hotel was farther from the airport than we’re used to. I was told the shuttle would run whenever we scheduled it, and that 10 minutes’ notice would be enough for the ride back from the airport. That information wasn’t right. We only learned after checking in that the shuttle runs hourly, on the hour. With about a 20-minute trip to the airport, leaving two hours before our flight meant we had to set out three hours ahead. On the return, we were told the shuttle would take 25 minutes, and waited even longer. It isn’t a bad place to stay, but if I’d been given accurate shuttle details before booking, my review would be better. The expectations they set weren’t met, and that was really disappointing.
