Motel West

The location is great, and the WiFi worked flawlessly. I stayed three nights over the first weekend in October. The room had what I needed, with a clean, comfortable bed and a stylish bathroom. I enjoyed the stay, found it a great value, and would recommend the motel.

The bed itself was fine, but I had a hard time sleeping and wouldn’t give this place anywhere near the 8.6 from Booking.com or 8.4 from Hotels.com. At best, I’d rate it 4.6. The place is old and off the main streets. WiFi didn’t work in our room, so the owner kindly offered us a seat in the office to work, which wasn’t how I wanted to spend my time. The air conditioning only ran at full blast, even on the low and medium settings, so we shut it off to sleep and the room stayed too warm. The bathroom fan sounded like a Piper Cub getting ready to take off, and my wife refused to shower. I washed my hair, then barely touched the wall-mounted hair dryer before it fell into the sink. Three of its four hooks were bent, so it only hung loosely from one. Someone before us must have left it that way. The furniture was old, the TV was small, and the purple and pink bedspread looked like something from a yard sale. Each of us got one very soft pillow, basically not a pillow. If you try your luck here, I’d avoid room 122.

For the price, it’s hard to beat, and probably the best budget choice in Bend. The room was clean, the bed comfortable, and the location convenient and quiet. During my one-night stay I couldn’t get the internet working, the TV reception was snowy, and the room lock was tricky to use.

This place is a scam. I booked one room for two nights, but at the front desk the woman told me I’d booked two rooms and said she’d already charged me because my credit card was on file. I showed her my receipt and booking number, but she had no interest in checking them. She threw her hands up and said she’d already charged me and could give me two room keys. I obviously didn’t take the second set. Don’t spend your money here. They’re running a scam out of that front office.
