Best Western Benton Harbor-St. Joseph

Fine for a night off I-94. The room was comfortable and pretty standard for an average hotel, and the room and linens seemed clean, though a few towels had visible stains. The indoor pool was very cold, and the hot tub was dirty, with brownish bubbles coming from the jets and clumps of hair in the water.

The front desk clerks were friendly, and my room was clean. What really impressed me was breakfast in May 2025. The gentleman running the buffet, Leonard?, clearly knew what he was doing and gave great service. I thought the buffet was better than the ones at Hilton and Marriott. Best Western surprised me. Nothing beats staff who know their job.

Breakfast was pretty decent, and the guy running it was cool. That was about the only bright spot. We were there for two nights for a friend's wedding, and I wouldn't stay again unless I had to. The pool area had an indoor/outdoor setup that looked neat, but the water was uncomfortably cold. The hot tub was so hot it stung our skin and made us red, and the water had hair and other debris floating in it. The wall clock was broken, and on our second day there weren't any towels, so I had to walk back to my room soaked. Our room felt stale and like it hadn't been cleaned properly in a long time. The carpet felt sticky underfoot, and there was thick dust on nearly every surface. The bed and bathroom seemed to be the only areas that got attention, and even the vent was missed. The couch was stained, with trash behind it and a filthy, stained surge protector nearby. We also found a roll of trash bags wedged between the bed and headboard. Dust and grime made the light fixtures sticky too. The pictures tell the story.

It was quiet, and I felt comfortable, safe, and welcome. The staff were excellent and breakfast was great. If I'm back in the St Joe-Benton Harbor area, I'll book here again.
