Red Roof Inn Benton Harbor - St Joseph

I was in room 207 for less than three minutes before I grabbed my things and went to the office. Roaches were running around in daylight, and the staff said they knew about the problem and were trying to deal with it. They told me I’d get a refund, but after 29 minutes of excuses, we left. Super.com needed confirmation that the cancellation and refund were accepted. I called the guy back to ask him to email that confirmation, and he hung up on me. Stay clear of this roach-infested place. I hope the Health Department is contacted and makes them shut this unsafe, nasty establishment down.

The price is cheap, but the lack of cleaning is pathetic. The covers are dirty, there are no towels, fixtures are coming out of the wall, and the WiFi is awful. Don’t be surprised if the shower head or the light over the sink doesn’t work properly, or if you see a few bugs. There was even a plate of food in the microwave with mold on it. I have videos, but can’t post those, only photos. They said they couldn’t accommodate me and blacklisted my name over a third-party chargeback, even though I’ve booked more than eight times and paid on my end every time. Avoid this place.

The room stayed at a nice temperature, but that was about it. The bathroom was small and gross, and the walls barely blocked sound. I could hear people shouting in the middle of the night. The beds creaked with even the slightest movement, and the tattered pillows felt insulting to be given. There were lots of unidentified red stains and what looked like mouse droppings on the sheets. You literally can’t see anything through the door peepholes. It felt genuinely scary. I saw someone hobble into the woods and come back to the building about 10 minutes later. Three or four people just stared at me and the person with me while we were outside, and some random guy knocked on our door in the middle of the night carrying an empty pizza bag.

We won’t recommend staying here. The sheets were stained, the shower looked nasty, and there were bed bugs. The place didn’t feel safe, so the experience wasn’t nice at all.
