Travelodge by Wyndham Benton Harbor MI

I traveled three hours to see family and friends before summer ended, then woke up with a cockroach literally crawling on my face. There was rat poop in the bathroom corner, no battery in the smoke detector, and the TV didn’t work. I asked the office staff to comp the room or refund me, and he agreed, but then said I should have come to him when it happened. I reminded him that, when I approached him in the middle of the night with a squished roach in a cup, he told me to talk to the manager. I waited in my car for the manager to arrive, but he never came. Later, when I called to ask if they’d at least refund or comp the room, which I’d paid more than the listed price for, they hung up on me. I wish I were making this up. I wouldn’t recommend it.

There’s heavy traffic, the rooms don’t have phones, and the guy who checked us in was rude.

Please don’t stay here. We were on a road trip looking for a moderately priced room in Benton Harbor and paid over $120 at this Travel Lodge, thinking it was a safe bet. We’ve stayed at Travel Lodges around the country without trouble before. When we arrived, people were dealing drugs in the parking lot and watching our vehicle, so we didn’t feel safe. The first room was very dirty and the TV didn’t work. My husband asked the manager to move us, and he did. The room at the front of the building felt safer, but there were no blankets on the beds and the fire alarm had been disconnected. The pool wasn’t operating, despite the website saying it was. It felt less like a motel than a transitional housing development.

The door looks like someone may have broken in, so I didn't feel very safe. The tub was really dirty, and the window had some kind of bugs. I didn't see bedbugs, but the bed looked like it had bugs on it.
