Berkeley Springs Motel

Jen and Sue are great, and they’re very accommodating. Sue even gave us bottled water in case we had dry pipes after all the festivities, as she put it. I’ve stayed here for years during the Apple Butter Festival, and this year the upgrades were a nice surprise. It seems the new owners listened to the reviews and addressed the complaints. The bedding and towels are new, the paint is fresh, and the old musty curtains are gone. It’s a clean, comfortable little motel with what you need. It’s not the Hilton, which is why I’m giving it four stars, but I’ll keep coming back. Being able to walk everywhere and avoid traffic is a big plus.

The owners and staff were friendly, and the room was clean, though small and sparse. It had a microwave and fridge but no coffee maker, and a space heater for cold weather. The furniture is older and dated, but in decent shape. Rooms open straight to the outside. For such a basic motel, the price felt high, and the rooms aren’t really suited to cold weather.

The service was unfriendly, and the room felt like poor value compared with nicer places I’ve stayed for the same price. There was only one towel for two guests, no coffee pot, and the fridge wasn’t on, so it would’ve taken too long to cool anything. Heat came from a space heater, while the bathroom had no heat and a cold tile floor. The old TV had a very poor picture.

For an inexpensive stay, it was fine, and I’d come back if I needed a cheap room in town. The owners were nice, and they took my card when I called to reserve a non-smoking queen room for $50 a night. The hot water was very hot, and the TV and AC worked. There’s a microwave and mini fridge, though you have to plug the fridge in yourself. A 7-11 is next door. It’s a no-frills motel, as expected. No Wi-Fi, phone, iron, coffee pot, or ice maker in the room. I was only there to shower and sleep. If you want pampering and all the extras, you’ll need to pay more somewhere else.
