Candlewood Suites Bessemer - Birmingham SW by IHG

The hotel itself is really nice, and I like it, but the noise has made us look elsewhere. We’ve stayed twice in the past month, and both times people ran back and forth through the halls and in and out of the building, shouting and playing loud music outside until 3 am. It seems management isn’t concerned about it, even though it goes on all night. A lot of us were staying for work, and we were all complaining in the morning.

We loved the seating area with its gorgeous gas fireplace, and the suite was very spacious. The kitchen was great, and breakfast was nice. The pull-out couch unfortunately didn’t work very well as a bed. We checked out the indoor pool, but it seemed too cold, so we didn’t use it. There’s a large gated parking lot.

I’ve been an IHG Rewards member for over 10 years, but I won’t return to this location. While I was traveling on official business, they charged my card $220, the full room price, before check-in. I was over four hours into my trip and still three hours away. I called and was put on hold three times. They said it was their policy to place a temporary hold. Other IHG hotels I’ve used don’t put a $50-150 hold on the card until check-in. I told them I planned to use a different card when I arrived. They said they would charge that new card and release the temporary hold in 3-5 days. No thanks.

I’m still here, but wanted to share how good the stay has been so far. The room is comfortable and clean, with everything needed for a pleasant visit. The shared spaces are well maintained and have a relaxed, cozy feel. The location is convenient, and the staff have been friendly, attentive, and ready to help since I arrived. So far, the experience has exceeded my expectations. If the rest of the visit goes as well, I’d consider coming back. Thanks for making the trip so pleasant.
