Best Western Danbury/Bethel

We spent a whole week there and had no microwave in the room, and there wasn't even a treadmill or gym. My room felt like a refrigerator while the heat was running full blast around the clock. It also seemed like just one person covered the desk day and night for our entire stay. He did his best, but it felt as if corners were being cut wherever possible. I don't think I'd stay again, though I wish them well. There's plenty of room for improvement.

The room itself was spacious, warm, clean, and had no carpet. The waffles at breakfast were fantastic, too. But after breakfast, when we came back to shower, there was no hot water. I let it run for about ten minutes with no change. The desk clerk was rude when I called, muttering “oh Christ” and sighing while I spoke. He said no one was available to fix it, but offered the room next door, whose guests had just checked out. When I asked whether it had been cleaned, he said no, explaining that housekeeping would have to clean it again if he gave us a clean room. I said that wasn't acceptable and asked for a manager, but he said he was the only one there and the manager was on vacation. Nothing came of it, and I wasn't going to shower in a stranger's used bathroom. We were in the area for a girls' weekend in NYC and had stopped for the night. The unfriendly welcome had already made a poor impression, and the shower issue was the only reason for my low rating.

The room and bathroom were clean, and the bathroom's heat lamp was a nice touch. Our room had no heat on when we arrived, though, and it was 11 outside. The man who greeted me seemed annoyed that I'd interrupted whatever he was doing in the next room. Also, the shower head was so low that my 5'10" husband had to duck.

The comfortable mattresses, good shower head, and plenty of lighting made for a great room, and breakfast was included. It's also conveniently located beside a 7-Eleven and Target. I've stayed in a lot of places like this while working on the road, and this is one of the best.
