River View Resort

The staff in the office were friendly and helpful, and our spacious suite was clean, with everything working properly. The kitchen had what we needed except for a drying rack, and the shower was nice. Wi-Fi worked well. We enjoyed the sauna and pool, and saw that there was also a game room, board games, and pickleball court, though we didn't use those. The place felt a bit worn and overdue for an update. Our first-floor suite didn't have a river view because brush blocked it, though the second floor may be different. There was no outdoor furniture on the patio; maybe it only comes out in spring and summer, but at least some days the weather was comfortable enough that we'd have liked to sit outside. The bed was meant to be a queen but felt closer to a full and wasn't very comfortable. The old-fashioned heating system made it hard to set a temperature we knew we'd like. There appeared to be window AC, but we visited in fall and didn't need it. The hot tub was adequately hot only once in the two times we used it. The small TV had about 20 channels, no streaming connection, and no DVD or Blu-ray player. The key only locked the doorknob when we left, which concerned me, even though the town seemed quite safe. We could lock the deadbolt from inside the suite. A note about the area: the town is charming, but there's not much to do. For a weeklong visit, expect to drive 1-2 hours on some days to find activities. Norway and Paris are about a 30-minute drive and worth a look. Norway has a bigger downtown than Bethel, and Grafton Notch State Park is nearby.
