The staff were very helpful, and the room was large, clean, and bright. The rooftop private dining area worked perfectly for our expensive special event, and the catered meal arranged through the hotel was delicious. For the price, I expected much better. We stayed five days in a “canyon” of high-rise buildings. There was no coffee or tea in the room or complimentary coffee in the lobby, breakfast wasn’t part of our package, the “Brown Bag” coffee shop was closed whenever we and others wanted it, and Morton’s dining room only opens for dinner. We had to use Uber, but the fancy portico had nowhere to sit while waiting for rides. Our room seemed not to have been rented or heated before our late check-in. The first night, the bedding pulled warmth from us. I changed into long underwear, a wool beanie, and a down vest, and we were still chilled to the bone. The room warmed up over the following days, but the heating system clanged and moaned all night. Management should spend a few nights in the hotel to see it from a guest’s perspective. It wouldn’t take much to add a coffee or tea pot in the lobby business area, outdoor seating at the portico, or keep the “Brown Bag” snack area open until 3 pm on weekends. If you come in cold weather, check in early so you can turn on the heat. Bring bottled water and snacks, and be ready to use the Metro or walk to pedestrian-friendly areas. If you have mobility issues, reconsider staying here. And don’t pack a swimsuit, there’s no pool or hot tub.

My mom stayed here for my graduation and was charged about $350 for smoking, even though she’s never even touched a cigarette. It was a surprise fee, and when we called to ask about it, the reception team was defensive, abrasive, and unhelpful. There are multiple articles saying this smoke-detection technology is far too sensitive. The only thing we could think of was that it detected her hair iron or blow-dry brush. Even if you follow the rules, I’d think twice about booking. The hotel isn’t worth that extra cost. We may not get the money back, but save yours and look into places with REST smoke detection tech.

There are plenty of restaurants and shops nearby, and I even found an Apple Store within walking distance after forgetting my MacBook charger. Parking under the hotel was reasonably priced, and validating at the front desk gave me in-and-out privileges. The staff were professional and efficient, moving quickly to sort out problems and help me get where I needed to go. I was in DC for the IMF and World Bank annual meetings and stayed at the Hyatt Regency Bethesda. It’s not too close to DC proper, but the hotel sits right on the Red Line, with a direct ride to DuPont Circle, Union Station, Metro Center, and other key points around DC. Rates were much more reasonable than hotels in DC were charging that week, so it was good value. The hotel could use a refurb, but I liked the old-school charm of the very clean, large rooms. On a business trip, I appreciated having space to spread out. I highly recommend it for business or pleasure.

I have fond memories of the Hyatt from when my children were little. My husband and I stayed there for Valentine’s Day recently, but it hasn’t been a good experience so far. A loud drill started at 8:50, and we had to leave and get another room. The body wash smelled great, but the pump was broken. I’ll update after we move to the new room tonight.

Mark White at the front desk made me feel welcome, valued, and looked after from the start. His professionalism, upbeat attitude, and readiness to help made a huge difference. Honestly, his outstanding service is why I chose to stay here. He’s a real asset to the property, and I really appreciate everything he did. I usually stay at marriot, but this experience has me choosing hyatt next time. You’ve got a new friend, COP!
