The Beverly

The easy check-in was one thing I did appreciate, but the room left me really disappointed. The area is cute, and I’d fallen for the hotel when I saw it online, so I was excited to stay. It didn’t look anything like the photos once we got there. The coffee maker was open with grounds scattered over it and the counter, the cupboards felt strangely sticky, and the orange bed pillows were stained. The tub had what looked like mold in the cracks, and the shower grab bar was coming loose. I don’t usually leave reviews, which says how disappointed I was.

We picked this hotel because it cost a little less, and it worked perfectly for our Salem visit. There’s a train station directly across the street, along with restaurants, a grocery store, and a liquor store. Trains run about once an hour every day, so getting around was easy. We were in a basement apartment. It was clean, had everything we needed, and came with a sheet explaining things like the supply closet, laundry, and contact details. There’s no reception desk, so everything happens online, but once we got the room code, check-in was simple. My friend and I had a really pleasant stay.

We needed somewhere on short notice over Christmas, and this was a great place to stay while visiting locally. The room was spotless and nicely furnished, and the staff were polite and quick to respond. I couldn’t have asked for a better option. Highly recommend.

Justin, the general manager, was kind and took my concerns seriously when I spoke with him the next morning. Before that, though, I tried several times after hours to call and text because I didn’t feel safe in our basement room, and no one got back to me until morning. The door was right by the main entrance, and it seemed anyone could get in through the nearby doors. I was there with my son for our first mother-son trip to Salem, and that raised serious safety concerns for both of us. I had assumed the basement room was what I’d booked, but The Beverly Hotel wasn’t what the listing or photos had led me to expect. The rooms also felt outdated, and the check-in process needs work. I even got check-in messages after I’d already checked out, which felt disorganized.
