Good location, but the floors were pretty yucky when we checked in, and the rooms really need a deep clean. The bathroom reeked of old cigarette smoke. With the heater on, the upstairs in the whispering pines cabin gets sooo toasty. Also, be careful, the heater gets scorching hot to touch. I’m glad I was the one who got burned and not my toddler. This cabin wasn’t child-friendly! It was a decent stay if you can get past the dust and gross floors. Bring your own Swiffer WetJet or something.

The staff were kind, though they looked tired from trying to keep the place up. I felt for them, but also wish they’d shown us the same consideration as customers. The cabin we got wasn’t pictured, probably on purpose. We were booked for four days, and the other cabins around us sat empty for two of our three nights. Each seemed better quality, and it felt lousy seeing the nicer cabins dark and unoccupied when we would’ve enjoyed staying in one. We would’ve paid a little more for one of them, especially since our cabin was only a tiny bit cheaper despite how limited it was. A nail sticking out of the threshold caught my foot. We were charged an extra $25 per hour for arriving early because they said they had to clean, but the toilet was unflushed and there was food on the floor when we got in. If it had actually been clean, I would’ve understood the expedited cleaning fee. No other cabins were occupied, so it seemed like only ours needed attention. The outlets didn’t work, so we had to use a single outlet to charge phones, brew coffee, and run a hair dryer. We also had to make coffee at the restroom sink, which was the same sink we were asked to use to wash dishes and brush our teeth, and where we had to get drinking water and take care of basic hygiene. That was a crappy setup.

The grounds make a lovely setting for a wedding weekend or family reunion. The cabins themselves need a lot of repair and a serious cleaning, though. A couple of floor spots felt so spongy I worried I might fall through, and the shower was really dirty. Mice were running across the counters and getting into our food, which was not great. Ants are expected, but that was too much. The windows wouldn't open, so we only had fans to cool the room.

There was plenty of space, but the place was dirty. We found mouse droppings and had to call every day to have the traps emptied and baited again. There was old pet hair around, and I wouldn't walk barefoot on the floors. It looked like the property might be for sale, and maybe that explains why cleanliness seemed neglected. It could be a nice place again with a lot of renovation and investment.
