Johann and Evelyn were the real highlight for us, such kind hosts, and Johann’s cooking is AMAZING. His French style Filet Mignon was the best beef we’d ever had, with an amazing twice baked potato and some of the best desert I’ve had in years. He also makes ancient grain sourdough bread so good he sells it to restaurants and anyone lucky enough to try it. Dinner is offered Thursday and Saturday nights, and you need to reserve a seat ahead of time. It felt intimate, with two tables of eight the night we went. The backyard is wooded and has a pretty stream, and the place has nice amenities in a quaint area. We had a great stay at A Joyful Bear, and it would be a lovely spot for a special weekend, a quick escape, or just some pampering. It’s much better than a hotel or Lodge.
