Studio 9 Big Bear

Nov 2025. The place is decrepit. The room stayed cold even after I ran the heater on high for an hour, and the fireplace was shut off. There were several soft spots in the floor, which was sticky, with beer bottle caps on the furniture. The toilet was filthy, there was no bar soap, and there was no carbon monoxide detector. Property management can do better.

We checked in late Friday night and left very early Sunday, and both check-in and checkout were easy. The front desk staff were very kind. It was my first time in Big Bear, and we had a great weekend. Our second-floor room was spacious, and the Village shops were within walking distance. The walls are a bit thin, so you can hear passing cars if you’re sensitive to noise, but it didn’t bother us.

The only things I could’ve wanted were lotion and maybe a few other small toiletries like you find in some chain hotels. I have no real complaints and would happily recommend Studio 9 and return in a heartbeat. I stayed there on a whim for a solo getaway, and communication with the owner was top notch. She answered all my questions. Since the property is newly owned and renovated, everything was well maintained. The front desk woman was friendly, and getting into my room was easy. The area is very walkable, close to the main Village but not right in it. I was on the bottom floor and found the door lock system smart and simple. My bed was super soft and comfy, and the blankets and electronic fireplace kept me warm at night. The shower was lovely and spacious. You can absolutely hear the neighbors above if you’re downstairs. It’s not new construction, so I understood, and it didn’t bother me.

The room was in pitiful, unacceptable shape, and the whole stay was deeply disappointing. I paid 150 dollars for the one night I stayed after canceling the second night, though this place wasn’t worth 75 a night. At check-in, the woman had trouble speaking English, and I had to repeat myself several times to explain things. One issue was the price we’d agreed on the phone the evening before, since she tried to charge me 60 dollars more. In the room, a strong black mold odor seemed to come from the tiny refrigerator, so I asked to switch rooms. When I got ready for bed, there was just one threadbare sheet between me and the mattress, and what looked like an unwashed comforter with a crunchy white stain instead of a top sheet. As I was about to fall asleep, I felt my skin crawling and saw a spider on my hand. There wasn’t even a bedside table light to turn on and see.
