The marina work should make the place even better once it’s done, and it’s fun seeing tarpon, parrot fish, nurse sharks, and manatees hanging around there. This was our third visit to Sunshine Key RV Resort and Marina, and we had a good stay. The setting is stunning, the pool is kept up well even if it feels a little small for a resort this size, and our RV site had a decent amount of room. Plenty of the other sites are cramped, though, even compared with other places in the Keys. There’s no restaurant, but we heard good things about the food truck and its hours seemed decent. Some long-term campers could use a cleanup, as things have spread out around their sites. On our last visit there weren’t weeds and the trees looked better maintained. I also enjoy the campground events, like bingo and arts activities, as a way to meet people. We left on 12/12, and when I checked yesterday there still wasn’t a completed calendar. That was really disappointing. It’s still a beautiful campground and resort.

The nights were a highlight for us: it’s quiet and wonderfully dark in nearly all the sites, with just a couple of exceptions, so the stars look amazing. Our site was large and had a lovely water view, too. Getting settled was easy even with our big rig. The interior roads were manageable, and the staff who directed us to the site made arrival stress-free. Everyone we met was warm and helpful, from the cheerful front office crew to the security staff greeting people at the gate. Sunshine Key RV Resort & Marina is well maintained and well run, in a beautiful part of the Florida Keys. We enjoyed it enough that we’re already planning to spend more time here next winter.

Our site was right down by the road, and the traffic noise went on all day and all night. Cars kept passing back and forth, so next time we’ll ask for a spot farther into the park and hope they understand. Apart from that, we had a great time. The resort was clean and pleasant, and it’s close to most major areas. There’s a shuttle from the gas station to Key West and back for just a few dollars. We liked the dog park, and the beach is great, with a walk under route 1 and around the other island. Bahia Honda state park is also a short bike ride away. I’d definitely recommend staying here.

Sunshine Key was our favorite of the parks we stayed at during almost a month in the Keys, and we were sorry to leave. We only got a week there and wished we could have stayed longer. Our ocean-front site, 452, was perfect, near the fishing pier with spectacular sunsets. The staff made a real effort to be friendly and helpful every time we interacted with them. I wish I’d gotten their names so I could give them a special shout-out. Near the office there’s a nice pool, sport courts, a good food truck, and plenty of planned guest activities. Some of the interior spaces felt a little tight for big rigs. The camp store and gas station, with diesel, are right beside the property. Thanks for a special week, Sunshine Key. Hope to see you next year!

The local bus stop by the office was such a handy perk. For just a few bucks, we could visit nearby places and Key West without having to look for parking. We loved Sunshine Key RV Resort, with the best of RV life and island life together. Swimming in the ocean was so much fun, the sunsets are unbeatable, and neat animals would swim by the marina for a visit.
