The Palisades Lodge of Big Pine

We booked online without seeing the place first, which felt a little tricky since there weren't any reviews yet. It's a self-service hotel. We were two couples sharing the two-bedroom suite, which had a kitchen, one bathroom, a small living room with a TV, and a comfortable layout with decent space. The place had only been open a few weeks, so everything was new and nice. The TV worked great and everything else functioned as it should. But the suite was echoey and loud, with little sound deadening and a tall ceiling. We could hear each other making noise in the kitchen or going to the bathroom. Some furniture felt cheap and uncomfortable, especially the sofa. The shower water also only got lukewarm. The worst part by far was the polyester bedding. It felt like sleeping between leaf bags and 220-grit sandpaper, and I itched and sweated all night. My girlfriend and I were miserable. We ended up putting our clothes on the bed as a barrier and sleeping without the top sheet, which didn't breathe at all. We barely slept. It's amazing that one thing can ruin the whole night, but the bed and sheets matter so much. I don't know how they got this wrong. I'd replace them with soft cotton or maybe microfiber sheets. At checkout, we noticed they wanted all dishes washed and garbage cleaned up or there could be charges. We had a large bag of garbage and nowhere to put it, just one small bin outside by check-in. The place is relatively nice, but needs a few finishing touches for a perfect stay.
