Such a beautiful place, which makes this hard to share. My girlfriend and I were on a long road trip, with Big Sur River Inn as the final stretch. We felt lucky to get one of the rooms across the highway on an entirely unplanned trip, after many lovely stays along the way. In the morning, while getting ready to continue our drive, we found BLACK MOLD in the bathroom. We tried several times to alert the owners, since this didn't seem like something that should be ignored. Room cleaning is a maintenance matter, but staff blocked our attempts to pass the information along. We took photos and sent them to property management, but haven't heard back. We can only guess that employees were protecting themselves.

After cycling from San Francisco to LA, a life changing decision for me, I spent four nights at Big Sur River Inn. It's right on the beautiful Big Sur River, with plenty nearby, from hiking in the hills to relaxing by the water and catching sunsets at the beach. The inn has the comforts tired road travelers need. Beds are very comfortable, and there's a good restaurant and bar with plenty of choices. The general store has groceries and a delicious burrito bar, plus an ice cream stand for a warm afternoon. Gabe and the rest of the staff made it a great stay. I'll definitely return the next time I ride through Big Sur.

The river is gorgeous, and the front desk folks were friendly and accommodating. The units are rustic, simple, clean, and cute, and the beds were comfortable. I slept on the pullout near the river, which worked fine for one person. I appreciate that management took the time to respond to my review and take customer feedback seriously, so I'm adding a star. This isn't a quiet getaway, though. The office closes at 4 PM, so if you need something between then and 9 AM, there aren't many options. Noise was the bigger problem for me, even during January's slow period. Delivery trucks started at 5:30 AM, restaurant cleaning was loud at 2 AM, and from 8 AM cleaning crews with strong-smelling products walked back and forth while I was trying to enjoy the river view. People were also walking around the lawn. The highway wasn't what kept me up. Outside space isn't very private either, since each room has a small nook on a shared balcony. The food at the restaurant was pretty good but pricey. I'd recommend this more as a restaurant stop or an overnight on the way to somewhere quieter than as a peaceful place to stay.

The idea is fun and relaxing, but the prices are way too high. We stopped for a quick drink heading south and were stunned that one beer, an orange juice, and fries added up to $31.

Lovely spot for a meal, and the staff were nice, though service took a while. I didn't care for the pesto pasta, but the salad was good.
