Tourway Inn

The room was clean, though it only had one towel and one washcloth, and there's no continental breakfast. The area felt somewhat secure. If you're coming to UAB for someone's surgery, it's very close and won't break the bank.

I paid for a smoking room, and that reservation was non-refundable, but at check-in they told me they only had non-smoking rooms. They should stop selling smoking rooms if the hotel doesn't allow smoking. I think they don't change the online listing because nobody would book if they knew smoking wasn't allowed. This isn't some top-tier hotel, either. When I went outside my room to smoke, staff said I had to close the door. But I'd booked for two guests and only got one key, so what am I supposed to do if my partner has the key and is gone? Lock myself out just to smoke? It feels like they're taking people's money by conveniently hiding the change to non-smoking.

One of my worst hotel stays. I don't get why they'd rent rooms during a renovation. The mattress still had its manufacturer's plastic on it, and the shower curtain didn't even reach the tub.

I was just passing through and needed somewhere cheap for the night, and this place did the job. The water was hot and the bed clean. Birmingham isn't the best area here, and the ugly wire fence around the property gives it prison vibes. It's not much to look at.
