Wayfinder Bishop

We booked a room facing the creek with a patio, and it was just perfect. Even from inside, we could leave the sliding door open and listen to all the sounds. The rooms were very nice and well equipped, the place was quiet and dog friendly, and there’s complimentary breakfast. There’s also a nice spot off the lobby to decompress in the evening. The location is fantastic, within walking distance of lots of local eateries. It absolutely doesn’t feel or look like a hotel. Raven at the front desk was welcoming and really helpful. We’d LOVE to stay again.

The rooms were okay, a little dark and dated, and the heating wasn’t great. We came for Bishop, and the breakfast was pretty good for a small town hotel. The property itself is very cool, but there was no active fireplace, despite what the website said when I asked. The main problem was Gwen and Akimmie. I tried to be kind, but I was treated terribly, especially when I asked about breakfast hours. People I spoke with at the hot tub and breakfast said they’d had the same experience with her or Gwen. Several people commented on her attitude, and it felt scary. She seems to be mean to solo female guests, though I don’t know why. Management should consider retraining her and whoever she trained. If you enjoy depressing lighting, poor heating, and being emotionally attacked by the morning desk staff, this place may suit you. Otherwise, book elsewhere and walk the grounds, which are open, to avoid that hostile desk staff. Negative ten stars if I could.

One front desk interaction really let us down. She enforced check-in and check-out times rigidly, with no flexibility even given the weather and the fact the hotel wasn’t busy. There wasn’t a smile, greeting, or any real welcome, making it one of my worst hotel front desk experiences. We’d stayed for one night before heading to Mammoth Lakes. The location was convenient, the room very clean, and the facilities well maintained.

We spent three days here with a large group of outdoor enthusiasts, and everything was done well to make the visit memorable. Our king room was modern, spacious, clean, comfortable, and lovely, with a balcony looking over the creek and the swimming pool beyond. The staff were warm, welcoming, and helpful when needed. The Wayfinder in Bishop is a real treat, a luxury place that’s expensive but gives you what you pay for. Highly recommended.
