Quality Inn Bismarck I-94

The pool area was decent, and the staff were friendly when we asked for a pullout bed. I’m glad they’re renovating, because the room was in terrible shape and left me really disappointed. The sheets were stained, and the beds weren’t even made when we arrived. There was old food on the bed skirts and furniture, plus burn holes. The floors were dirty, half the lights in our room didn’t work, and every ice machine was out of order. The pillows were throw-pillow size, and the beds were awful, with springs you could feel through the mattress.

The room renovations offer some comfort about the rooms as a whole, which is why I gave the rooms three stars instead of one. Still, I can’t recommend this hotel to anyone. One star. The managers made the stay overwhelmingly negative. They were toxic, demeaning, and incredibly rude to guests and their own employees, speaking down to staff right in front of everyone in the lobby. Their lack of professionalism was shocking. Instead of listening respectfully or helping people feel welcome, they belittled people and escalated things for no reason. That set a horrible tone and reflected badly on the whole hotel. This behavior also gives the entire Quality Inn franchise a bad name. If this location is someone’s first impression of the brand, it’s not a good one.

The bathroom was clean, and Cliff, the manager, was awesome. He matched the price shown on Google and gave me a half-price drink ticket for the back bar. Thanks, Cliff! But if stained carpeting and common areas in complete disrepair bother you, this isn’t the place for you. The carpeted stair treads were literally held down with blue painter's tape.

I wasn’t impressed. We waited 30 minutes because there was only one woman at the desk, while the maintenance guy kept pacing back and forth behind my friend and me. The walls had holes, and the carpet was outdated. The hot tubs were closed for maintenance after people had put glass in them. The elevator was scary, rattling and making noises as it went up and down. It wasn’t very clean and smelled bad. Housekeeping never brought fresh towels, so we had to use the same ones for three to four days.
