The hotel was clean, the evening desk staff were friendly, and breakfast had lots of choices with fresh food brought out regularly. The location was convenient, with food and activities nearby. The hotel pool was being maintained, but they arranged for us to use the pool at a gym across the street, and that gym was better than most hotel gyms. Our stay was mixed because one of our two rooms was great, while the room my parents used had serious heater problems. It stayed below 60° during the first two nights, when Tulsa temperatures were in the 20s. They didn't want to complain, so they bought a cheap space heater. On the third night, the heater started working, but every 45 minutes or so it roared like a jet, blew very warm air for five minutes, then stopped. That kept happening from around 9 p.m. until we checked out at 7 a.m. Another family traveling with us also had a room where the heater didn't work, so this didn't seem to be a one-off. We told the desk at checkout, and the clerk came across as condescending, saying that's just how the heater works. That room would get one star from me. The other room, where my wife and sons stayed, had no problems at all and would have earned five stars on its own.

The location was really handy, and the staff were nice. We saw an unleashed dog running around the check-in area on the evening of 12/21. When I asked the receptionist about it, she said, “What dog?” Management should check the cameras. There was dog hair all over our belongings from the room, including on a towel. I understand the hotel allows dogs, but maybe some floors could be kept for guests who don't want to sleep surrounded by dog hair. I left feeling very stuffy and sneezy. It felt gross and unhygienic. If you're staying in this area, I wouldn't recommend it. It seems like a great deal if you're bringing a dog.

The location worked well for me, and my stay here a year ago was decent, though nothing special. I'm in the area once or twice a year for soccer games, and there was even a lobby sign welcoming soccer visitors. This time, though, the room prices were more than $100 higher, with one night costing over $200. At that price, the condition was disappointing. The room wasn't very clean. I wiped down the window with a bath towel, the carpet and bed linens had stains, the bathroom sink was cracked, and what I first thought were bugs in the tub turned out to be stains. At least there weren't any live bugs. I'd consider staying again at around $100 a night, but not for more than that. I travel for work often, and it's a shame to see these Hampton's continuing to decline while the prices don't reflect it. I know they're franchised, but it feels like Hampton is falling behind across the board. I booked again because of my previous stay, but I won't be coming back.

I left feeling sick. I can't say for sure why, but I suspect the dirty conditions and an air conditioner that badly needed attention played a part. There was hair in the tub and on its walls, which made me question how well the room was cleaned. The bed was worn out and uncomfortable, and the pillows were flat as pancakes. The room itself felt run down: battered furniture, mismatched appliances, and lampshades that needed replacing. The air conditioner was the loudest I've ever heard. On top of that, the door lock didn't work, so I had to rely on the front desk to let me in each time. There were only about 10 cars in the parking lot during the holiday, but they wouldn't move me to another room. They said someone with a master key would have to let me back in. Whoever is running things now seems to be pinching pennies. At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if the place became an OYO.

The team member employees were great, but my experience left me questioning how the franchise owners of the Hampton Inn & Suites Tulsa South-Bixby are managing the advertised amenities. I also think Hilton shares responsibility. I booked specifically for the pool because my kids were excited about it, then found out it was closed. At first I thought it was just bad timing, but recent reviews suggest it has been out of service for a while. That makes me wonder whether advertising the pool this way could be false advertising. At breakfast, both waffle makers were marked broken. I find it suspicious that both would fail at once, and wonder if the owners simply didn't want the trouble or expense of serving waffles. I looked at the KPIs franchise owners are required to meet, and they seemed tied to occupancy and revenue. There should also be measures for maintaining the Hilton brand, including a minimum breakfast standard and a required uptime for amenities the hotel claims to offer. Holiday Inn (IHG) says in its booking app when the pool is out of order. I've also never encountered a broken waffle or pancake maker there.
