Quality Inn Black Mountain-Asheville East

The rooms were small, old, and rusty, and the pet fees kept changing. I called ahead and was told it would be $30. When I arrived, it became $30 per dog. I pushed back, then at checkout they charged me three times that amount. They admitted it was a mistake but said they couldn't refund it there and that I'd have to call back to get my money. It felt pretty much like a scam.

The room was very clean, and the staff were great and helped me find things. Getting here is easy since it's just off the interstate. My only real gripe is that parking could be tricky with a big vehicle if the lot were full.

We had nowhere else to go because everything was booked, and our SUV was packed with clothes we were delivering to Helene victims. I was also only four weeks out from knee replacement surgery. We stayed, but not because the room was acceptable. I appreciated that the inn had given people affected by the hurricane a place to stay, and I said so in my review. I'm from the area. They still should have deep cleaned after those guests left. When my husband opened our room door after we got food, the smell of wet dog hit us. I called downstairs. The older white haired clerk, Barbara I think, snickered and said it probably smelled of animals because they had housed people from the hurricane with pets. She offered to move us, but the refrigerator in that room was sitting pulled out on the floor, so we stayed put. Opening the door helped a little. Then we found a small spot of blood, or what looked like blood, on the sheets. When I called again, they still tried to put us in a room in worse shape. We stripped the beds, lay on one comforter, and covered ourselves with the other. In the morning there was a dead bug in bed with us and some kind of fly on my drink cup and pillow. Quality Inn's manager was rude and nasty when I called. I also contacted the third party we booked through. The young woman there called the property while I was on the line, then came back saying they had been rude to her and used unpleasant language. She said they used profanity and politely hung up. I didn't ask for a refund or turn down the $10 discount. We were not moved to another room, despite what I assume the clerk told them. The room she offered was worse. I'm now spending money to get rid of bed bugs we brought back from the hotel. I sent a close up picture of one that had shed. It wasn't as big as it might look in the photo. Barbara was rude every time we spoke that night, and that was several times. I want my review reply to reflect what actually happened. Thank you for your time. Quality Inn, you can do better.

My feet turned black from walking barefoot on the carpet. I also found three cockroaches, saw black mold on the bathroom ceiling, and there was no smoke detector. The room was disgusting, and they refused to refund me. Choose somewhere else.
