Residence Inn by Marriott Blacksburg-University

After driving from Charlotte, I got to Blacksburg two hours early and stopped at the Residence Inn Blacksburg, hoping to use the lobby restroom and freshen up. I explained my situation to Kayleigh at the desk and asked whether I could pay a day rate to use a room for two hours to shower and take a quick nap. She wouldn’t accept any payment and offered me a room. I’ve stayed in many hotels, and this was the best customer service I’ve ever had. She was kind, compassionate, and understanding. Thank you, Kayleigh, you deserve a raise or at least a bonus! I’m a lifetime titanium member with Marriott. I’d had to cancel my reservation because of flight issues, and when I called, the clerk canceled it without a penalty.

The staff were really nice, and the location is perfect if you’re visiting a student, with campus and lots of places to eat nearby. The room could have been cleaner. I’m not sure if they were understaffed or what.

This was our third stay at Residence Inn Blacksburg, and it’s now our regular stop on the drive between Georgia and Maryland. We’re greeted warmly at check-in, and the rooms have always been clean, quiet, and spacious, with comfortable beds. It’s handy to unload our cooler into a full-size fridge. Breakfast is great, with gluten-free options that are rare and much appreciated. There are also good food, smoothie, and dessert choices right across the parking lot.

Bertha did a great job reserving a first-floor accessible room with a roll-in shower. It was very nice and clean, and Kayleigh was another helpful staff member. I’ve stayed in several hotels over my 70-plus years, and staff are a big part of guest satisfaction. The team at this Residence Inn rates at the top for me. Thank y’all so much. I highly recommend it.
