Bluebird Ocean Point Inn

I came to Bluebird Ocean Point Inn on my own for a little break from Portland, and the ocean views made it easy to spend hours just reading and unwinding. The place is beautiful, with a pool that has plenty of room and loungers, plus spacious, comfortable rooms with more amenities than I expected. Parking, WiFi, and check-in were all straightforward. The staff really stood out. They knew their stuff and went out of their way to make guests feel welcome. There’s a restaurant on-site and a cute little shop, too. It’s pet friendly, which is a bonus. Next time I’d love to bring friends and stay longer in one of the cottages. A relaxing Maine coast getaway.

The room had nice furniture and a good bathroom, though the shower is designed without a door and the bathroom door doesn’t lock. At the front desk, the staff were friendly. There’s coffee in the lobby, but they said it’s usually kept in rooms and the shipment was delayed. The ice machine is outside by the stairs.

The view is the one thing this place has going for it. The room smelled musty as soon as we walked in, had mildew and cobwebs on the ceiling, missing bathroom light fixtures, and an ice bucket without liners. We couldn’t even open the door on arrival, and there were only two outlets. The Roman blinds were so see-through that people outside could see right into the room. After a cold afternoon exploring Maine, I was hoping for a hot shower, but the water was lukewarm. The supposedly fresh towels had skid marks on them. We were offered an upgrade for another $20, but I still don’t know what that would have gotten us. I’m just glad we were only staying one night. This “boutique hotel” is rough and needs a huge renovation. I wouldn’t recommend it. I was up all night with breathing problems. If you have any lung issues, I wouldn’t stay here. Other guests told us they had similar problems. Dogs also started barking nonstop at 6 AM. The half and half was curdled, and they offered us a couple of $30 vouchers for another visit. We’re not coming back.

It’s a really nice place, though breakfast wasn’t included and it felt a little expensive without it. Coffee wasn’t available in the room, and the lobby coffee was empty at 11. They’d only opened two days earlier, so maybe some things weren’t ready in time. A buffet with an omelet station included in the price would be wonderful.
