Specific to Longfellow Towers: Update, about three months later, February 2026: They’ve completely mishandled a power outage caused by a manhole fire. Community manager Lenny Dortch refuses to take responsibility for repeated failures in leadership. Residents and pets have been made to leave the apartments multiple times so the issue could supposedly be fixed, only for the plan to be reversed and rescheduled. The people managing this property are utterly incompetent. As I said in my original review, live here only if it’s your absolute last resort. Original review, Fall 2025: The building is perpetually under construction, but work never seems to get finished. The place looks torn apart, construction noise is constant, and maintenance workers regularly take up one of the few working elevators with equipment and supplies. There are four elevators, and at least one, sometimes two or more, are out of service at any given time. Don’t expect repair updates from management. They say a special part has to be ordered and is on back order. The laundry machines were recently replaced. Each wash costs $3.00, and each dry costs $3.00. They barely hold a week’s laundry for one person, and only work through a terrible app that seems designed by someone who just discovered the internet. The “concierge” is a third-party vendor, not an Equity Residential employee. About 90% of them just watch videos on their phones. They don’t open the door when residents have their hands full or do anything useful. If there’s a problem, they know nothing, brush you off, and send you to the leasing office. The property manager just deflects and says they’re “working on it.” Don’t live here unless you truly have no other choice.

This apartment is not worth the price, especially with winter electricity bills reaching as much as $1000. The elevators never work, and there’s no lighting in the main rooms, so everyone has to use their own lamps. The shared laundry is mostly broken or unhygienic, with pet laundry mixed in with regular loads. You also have to pay extra for a laundry card.

They keep making new business listings at the same address, so zoom in to find the real ones with actual reviews. As for living here, there’s currently only one elevator working for a 350-unit building. I’ve been here five years, and the elevators seem to break about every four months. That tells you enough about the living conditions. Go somewhere else, or make sure management has changed significantly.

The biggest disappointment was the lease. I needed somewhere for six weeks, but the shortest term they offered was two months. They added two extra days, which I missed, and now they won’t do anything about it even though I moved out three days before the lease ended. I signed it and should’ve read more carefully, but I only ever asked for two months, not two months and two days. I was told I could have a two-month lease and a pool, but the pool is at another location, a 10-minute walk away, and costs $400+ to use. They also advertised a theater room, but that’s in another building, another 10-minute walk away. The internet didn’t work through the wall connection. I was told I’d have to pay for any troubleshooting of the wiring inside the wall. Fortunately, I traced the problem to wires that were connected incorrectly and labeled wrong. Parking was outrageously expensive, about twice the price at other nearby apartments. It wasn’t directly the apartment, at least on the surface, though they may be under the same company. The apartment rate itself was astronomical, but they’re entitled to charge it and I’m entitled to accept it. The location can be quiet. There’s construction nearby that probably affects some apartments, but ours wasn’t too bad. It felt like a sad, familiar case of people acting like robots and not being very honest.

The dog park is nice, though a lot of residents don’t clean up after their pets. The renovated apartments have much less kitchen storage, and some have very inconsistent updates. We used to live in a unit with newer HVAC, but now we’re in a clearly renovated one with a system that looks 40 years old. We barely used the heat in winter 2025-2026, yet our electricity bill tripled. The building is always under construction, the elevators keep having problems, and Xfinity is the only internet option, which really sucks. Parking is $500 a month, and construction and events at the Garden can make it hard to find a spot. The replacement laundry machines are tiny, cost more, and their app is awful. It’s definitely an interesting place. They should spend less time renovating units and more on improving the shared spaces.
