Holiday Inn Express Salt Lake City N Bountiful

Rooms are clean and nice, breakfast is good, and the staff are friendly. The location is great, too, and it costs less than other hotels offering similar quality. They fill up quickly, though, so getting a room the same day can be difficult. That’s for the reasons I mentioned.

Getting there was easy, and the staff were friendly. After that, things went downhill. The inside was dim instead of bright and welcoming, and I’m not sure where the hotel pictures came from, because they didn’t match what I experienced. My first room was dingy, with dirty windows, a partly made bed, and a fridge pushed against the wall beside it. I couldn’t tell whether the sheets had been changed. The bathroom looked nothing like the photos: it had a basic gas station sink with no counter or vanity, just a small end table. It felt more like a mom-and-pop motel than the Holiday Inn Express I’ve enjoyed over the years. The air conditioner in that room didn’t cool, so I asked to move the next morning. The replacement was better, but its windows were filthy enough that I could barely see out. The AC still wouldn’t cool below 72°, and since I couldn’t open a window, I was hot at night. It was just as useless as the unit in the first room. I didn’t feel like I was on holiday here. It reminded me of being at my mother-in-law’s, hot and having to compromise. This hotel falls far below the standards I’ve experienced at other IHG properties, and I’m really disappointed. I won’t be back. It feels as though the owners have done the bare minimum to run an IHG hotel and cut corners on cleaning and maintenance to save money. I’ll research better next time.

The staff were wonderful, and the clean, new lobby made a good first impression. But the two ground-floor rooms we had were both in poor shape, and that affected our stay. There was peeling paint above the tubs, dirty and moldy caulk around the tubs and floors, stained tubs, loose toilet seats, and dirty exhaust fans. The HVAC was loud, inefficient, and had dirty vents that barely worked. Furniture drawers and doors were broken, some outlets didn’t work, and the curtains were broken. We hope management takes care of these problems so future guests have a better stay.

We had a bad stay, and the only reason we didn’t check out was that we were in town because of a family emergency. The room had serious plumbing problems: the toilet wouldn’t flush all the way, and the tub filled with water while we showered. There were electrical issues, too. Walking in, we noticed a strong smell of bleach and mildew. The staff were rude and unwelcoming. They didn’t greet us or smile when we came in, just stared. I also saw someone at the front desk snub another guest. I intend to contact corporate about the experience.
