MainStay Suites Bourbonnais - Kankakee

Laderek was friendly and helpful when I called after my trip and got my refund sorted out. That was the only good part. I was in the area for work, but checked out as soon as I saw the room and had to book another nearby hotel at a much higher last-minute price. The desk attendant wouldn't refund me at checkout. In the room, it smelled awful and felt humid. There were dried hairs stuck to the bathroom wall and hair dryer, and stool was splattered on the raised toilet seat, its base, and lid. The tables were dusty and had crumbs. A nightstand clock was turned sideways and flashing the wrong time. The carpet and floors were dirty, and the place smelled bad. Across the hall, loud rap music and a strong marijuana smell were spilling into the corridor. The front desk attendant was vaping at the desk, and outside the building was poorly lit, with old, dirty-looking windows. Horrendous. Steer clear.

The staff were friendly, and breakfast in the lobby was decent when I stayed. I also found the room exceptionally clean and set up with nearly everything you might need in the kitchen: cookware, utensils, a cooktop, microwave, and a roomy refrigerator. It was comfortable and convenient enough that I would've considered staying longer than my one night. Two things brought my rating down. The pillows were small and thin, so if you stay awhile you might want to bring your own. At night the heavy doors and latches made a lot of noise when they shut. That wasn't the hotel's fault, but some kids across the hall kept slamming one and yelling until about midnight.

The woman working there on 1/30/26 at 10:15 p.m. was extremely rude. They also don't accept cash.

By the time I headed to check out, I found out the hotel was housing homeless people through Salvation Army vouchers. That would explain the horrible smell in the hallways. The place is definitely not smoke free either. You can smell it walking toward the building from either side of the parking lot. When we arrived, no one was at the front desk, and check-in took 17 minutes. If you're a clean person, I really don't recommend staying here.
