Garden Place Hotel

The Jacuzzi was nice, and for the price this worked for a night away from the kids and pets. Still, our stays here over the years have shown a decline, and the decor is very dated. Breakfast is no longer free, and there was no coffee available in the morning. You can order breakfast, and there's a microwave in the hallway instead of in the room. The refrigerator was on the floor. The bed felt like it had no pillow top, and the pillows lost their firmness overnight. The TV had streaming options but wouldn't let you add apps like Plex. The outside doors didn't lock, and I watched a full-sized dog walk right out. Another couple told us someone had opened their door in the middle of the night, so they asked for a new room. Aside from being a place to spend a night away, it was less than we hoped for.

I'd love to come back once the remodel is finished, and I hope they restore the hotel to what it used to be, or sell it to someone who will. I've stayed here a handful of times over the past 20 years. The original building and decor are still beautiful, but the rest is run down. I stayed a few days before Valentine's Day 2026. I was told the hotel had new management and was being remodeled, which seemed right given the fresh paint and missing moldings. There's still a long way to go: older room furniture, peeling wallpaper, stained carpet, damaged ceilings and walls, and a refrigerator with broken or missing interior parts. The room's electrical seemed faulty, possibly surging, and the lights were unstable. The security door didn't work, so the doors stayed unlocked. They no longer offer breakfast, though you can order a light one from the lower-level window. We paid $4-5 for a yogurt parfait that was about six ounces of yogurt with no fruit. It wasn't worth it. I'd be happy to update my rating after the renovation.

Moni at the front desk made a disappointing room change into a good experience. The Jacuzzi in my room wasn't working, so I had to switch rooms. I'd specifically booked one because we'd been having an extremely cold spell and I wanted to soak and relax. Moni was helpful and made me feel comfortable, then upgraded me to a better room. I'm grateful. It's an old-world hotel that's being brought up to higher standards. I'd stay again.

The best part was having a Jacuzzi in the room that I could actually fit in. The room itself was old and showed years of wear. There was no telephone or remote, and when I called the front desk on my cell to ask for a TV remote, they said they didn't have any. I thought there'd be a continental breakfast, but there was only coffee. A small cafe offered a few breakfast items, though they weren't very good. I'm not sure I'd stay again.
